A Home That Reflects the Artist
Suaka Wastana is more than just a house. It’s a living canvas for Haikal’s creativity. The building includes a master bedroom, guest room, art studio, and spacious communal areas.
The architecture is simple yet expressive—clean lines, textured finishes, and natural light define the space. Every element is a reflection of Haikal’s desire for freedom in both art and living.
Every Room Tells a Story
Each space has its own character:
- The studio has a moody “Whimsy Goth” feel with darker tones and surreal touches.
- The bedroom is warm and tropical, filled with earthy colors and leafy plants.
- The living room draws from Bauhaus design—modern, functional, with vintage furniture.
- The kitchen and dining area mix cottagecore charm and Peranakan heritage, creating a cozy and nostalgic vibe.
Sustainable and Rooted in Place
Sustainability is central to the design. The home uses locally sourced materials, wide openings for natural airflow, and passive cooling. Exposed concrete, reclaimed wood, and terracotta tiles give the house a tactile, grounded feel.
At the heart of the home is a courtyard that connects all rooms. It brings in light, fresh air, and a sense of togetherness—while allowing space for solitude.
Suaka Wastana by Wastana Haikal and Atelier NARK is a place of harmony. It blends tradition and modernity, structure and freedom. As a 2025 nominee for ArchDaily’s Building of the Year, it celebrates how architecture can be deeply personal—and still universal.
